We know that installing a new boiler can be a big and often stressful decision. So we’ve put together a simple guide to boiler installation to help you make sense of it all. It covers some of the common considerations beforehand, what the installation entails, and what happens afterwards.
Choosing your boiler
Do you opt for combi or conventional boiler? And what brand do you go for? Well, here at East Midlands Gas and Plumbing we will always advise on the best possible route for your home and household, but there are three main factors that have a bearing on the type of boiler you choose and how much it will cost:
1. How much water do you use?
If you live in a large family home, you’re likely to have higher water usage than a single occupant in a small flat. Generally, conventional boilers are better suited for busy households with higher water demands, and combis are best for lower water usage.
2. How much space do you have?
If you don’t have much space in your home, combi boilers are a good option as they don’t require a hot water cylinder.
3. Where do you want the boiler to live?
For ease of installation and minimal disruption to your home, it’s best to have your new boiler fitted in the same place as the old one. As long as it has the correct pipework and you can position the flue correctly, you can place it in almost any room, but most people opt for the kitchen, utility room or cupboards.
How much does a new boiler cost?

Your local gas safe registered boiler fitters
So you’ve chosen your boiler and agreed on the quote. Now you need a local gas safe engineer. All East Midlands Gas and Plumbing engineers are highly experienced, Gas Safe registered (previously CORGI). You should only use a Gas Safe engineer to carry out your boiler installation.
Your Gas Safe engineer will want to check a few things with you first. Such as how many radiators you have, your central heating water pressure, the number of bathrooms in your home and the positioning of the current boiler and flue.
What happens on the day of installation?
Step 1. We’ll cover your floors, carpets and surfaces to ensure we keep the work area clean. We’ll work with efficiency, bringing all the right materials and tools with us to ensure we don’t cause you unnecessary inconvenience.
Step 2. We understand you lead a busy life, so you don’t need to be there for the installation. Just give us access to your home and we’ll crack on with it.
Step 3. If it’s a straightforward swap, for example combi to combi you can expect us to be done within a day or two. It’s worth bearing in mind though, that if it’s a much older boiler system or you’re changing boiler type, there may be complications which can prolong the installation.
Once the boiler has been installed the engineers will complete all the necessary safety checks and the commissioning has been completed then the engineer will demonstrate and show you how to use the boiler and controls.
Boiler installation aftercare
When choosing a reputable company, such as East Midlands Gas, you should have the peace of mind that a new boiler will work for years to come. Most of our new boilers are guaranteed with either a 5, 7 or 10 year manufacturers warranty.
We guarantee to fix any faulty workmanship that we’ve carried out, and repair or replace any faulty pipe work or parts we’ve supplied for 12 months from the date that we carried out the work.
It’s also important, to keep your boiler in good condition, and that you service it annually. We offer various care plans which include annual servicing. Please ask our boiler installation engineer for more information. Through regular servicing you’ll ensure your boiler remains efficient for as long as possible.

Yes, all our boiler installers are registered with Gas Safe and fully qualified.
You must be Gas Safe registered to work on any gas appliances. It is illegal for anyone to work on a boiler or any gas appliances unless they are fully trained and Gas Safe registered.
We can schedule you for non-emergency installation at a time that is most convenient for you. However, if your current boiler has been condemned and you need a new one as soon as possible, we can arrange for an installation within 48 hours.
The cost of a new boiler is dependent on a few factors: the size of the building, the amount of radiators and number of bathrooms. Also, some boilers have more features which means that they cost more. All new boilers come with a typical manufacturer's warranty of 2 to 5 years, and some warranties can be extended up to 7 to 10 years.
Most small, infrequent issues can be fixed with one-time repairs, however, if your boiler is constantly breaking down, you may need a new boiler installed. If your boiler is breaking down regularly and is over 10 years old, it may be worth having a newer more energy-efficient boiler.
