Power Flush in Derby by East Midlands Gas

Leading radiator power flush company in Derby

Local Power Flush Experts

When you experience a problem with your boiler, the fault may not be obvious to see at first. If the central heating system isn’t operating efficiently and some radiators have cold spots or are taking a long time to warm up it may be down to sludge, rust or lime scale causing leaks or pipe blockages.

Power Flushing is an efficient and effective method of cleansing a central heating system. Power Flush is the process by which heating systems are forcibly cleansed by a high velocity water flow under controlled conditions to remove debris from your central heating system, avoiding physical damage to the system.

Does my central heating require a Power Flush?

The symptoms to look out for where a central heating system and boiler would benefit from a power flush are:

  • Cold spots on radiators.
  • Radiators take a long time to warm up.
  • Radiator water is dirty.
  • No hot water due to blockages.
  • Noisy or loud boiler.
  • "Knocking" sound on boiler start-up.
  • Repeated pump failures.
  • Leaking radiator valves.
  • Central heating header tank is warm.
  • Boiler loses pressure.
  • Boiler needs regular topping up.

The above symptoms are an indication of circulation and flow problems. They result from internal corrosion, scale and sludge forming within your central heating system.

Power flushing can remove undesirable corrosion residues and scale and replace sludge water quickly with clean water after removing the scale and sludge. The central heating circulation is restored and so is the system’s efficiency, preventing future problems.

The Benefits of Power Flushing

Over the course of a central heating systems life, the accumulations of sludge, corrosion and limescale deposits can reduce performance or stop a central heating system from working all together.

Power flushing restores the heat circulation to ageing central heating systems that have suffered from poor water circulation resulting in cold radiators or when boilers and radiators start making noise by removing sludge and debris from your central heating system.

The benefits include:

  • Save up to 25% on heating bills
  • Home heats up faster
  • Even heat distribution on radiators.
  • Less noise from boiler & radiators
  • Increases the life of the boiler
  • Boiler less likely to break down

Power Flushing FAQs

Do you carry out Power Flushing in Derby?

Yes, we carry out Power Flushing throughout the whole of the East Midlands, including Derby and its surrounding areas.

Do you Power Flush old central heating systems?

In short, yes. In fact, the older systems are generally the systems that are most in need of Power Flushing. Our equipment uses less pressure than the mains water so it does not risk damaging your system. The Power Flush will make your system much more energy efficient.

I’ve just had a new boiler fitted. Do I still need a Powerflush?

If you install a new boiler into an old, sludge and debris filled system, the new boiler will be damaged, and its performance will be restricted by the sludge and debris flowing through it. It is best to Powerflush the system before installing the new boiler to ensure that no sludge and debris passes through it. However, in this case, the Power Flush can still be carried out after the boiler has been installed. This will mean that the boiler works more efficiently, and it won’t be hindered by sludge. The manufacturer’s warranty will also cover you, as non-cleaned systems are not covered by warranty.

Can I have a Power Flush on a micro-ball system?

n short, yes. At East Midlands Gas, we have several years of experience in Power Flushing. Our engineers are more than well equipped to deal with any sort of system, no matter how challenging or unusual the system may be.

I’m replacing my radiators. Do I need to get a Power Flush?

Replacing your radiators won’t make a difference to the sludge that is already built up in your pipe work. It is unwise to install new radiators onto a system filled with debris and sludge as it will immediately restrict the new radiators ability to perform. It is best to have the system Powerflushed in order to clear all of the sludge and debris which is built up so that the new radiators are able to perform at maximum efficiency.

We have boiler breakdown cover, but it doesn’t include powerflushing. Can you undertake this for us?

Many boiler breakdown cover plans require their customers to have a Power Flush to their heating systems to ensure that the boilers performance is not being restricted and damaged by sludge and debris. If your boiler breakdown cover plan requires you to have your system cleaned, call us today on 01332 916966 for a full quote on radiator cleaning and Powerflushing.

Which Power Flush machines do you use?

We use Fernox Power Flush machines, which are regarded as the leading Power Flush manufacturers. Also, we use chemicals to help break down sludge and debris and flush them out of your system. Most importantly, our engineers have several years’ worth of experience which means that they are able to deliver the highest possible level of service and ensure that your system is left in a clean state.

I have a boiler cover plan and have been told by the engineer that he will not replace my pump until I have given my system a Power Flush. What shall I do?

This is a common stance for insurance companies to take with their boiler coverage plans. They do this because they are aware that the Central Heating System is full of sludge and debris which will be introduced to any new pump installed to the boiler, immediately shortening its lifespan. It is best to have a Power Flush before fitting on a new pump so that the new pump is introduced to a clean system which will reduce the likelihood of you having this issue again.

Do you have to remove the radiators to clean them?

In short, no. We don’t take individual radiators off the wall to clean them. However, we do individually clean each radiator by using our Fernox Power Flushing equipment. This ensures that each radiator is thoroughly cleaned and left with no sludge or debris.

Can a Power Flush cause leaks?

This would only happen if you already had an existing fault with the central heating system, for example if a radiator has rusted through. In this case, the engineer will deal with the leak on site which is better than the leak occurring when there is nobody in the property.
